Happy Tom says his life was changed by the purchase of a seemingly ordinary t-shirt in 1978. It was a plain white t-shirt that read, "Have a Nice Day," and featured a yellow, cherubic face with a large, outlined smile. For Tom, this was the beginning of a career as a happy smiley face collector! Some of the unique items in Happy Tom's collection include a welded smiley face and a fish bowl from the Have a Nice Day Cafe, a 1970's theme bar. Other items are coin banks, cookie jars, lamps, clocks, trash cans, tea servers, mugs, buttons, stickers and posters. His happy office is now FILLED with the smiling faces! As teachers, administrators or visitors enter Tom's office, they are immediately taken aback by the sheer volume of happy faces. "It's always two steps when someone enters." Tom said. "one step in and another step backwards." "And everyone always says, 'So, you like happy faces?' It's a universal reaction." Happy Tom really enjoys displaying his office to the students and they love it too. "Whenever they visit me, I give them a souvenir" says Tom.
